To support the safe operation of SAP systems, SAP offers a whole portfolio of services. We present the security services offered by SAP Active Global Support (AGS). The security of an SAP system in operation depends on many factors. There are several security features in the SAP standard, such as user management, authentication and encryption capabilities, web service security features, and the various authorisation concepts. Vulnerabilities in the standard software are also regularly fixed in SAP notes and support packages. You are responsible for the safe operation of your SAP system landscapes; so you need to incorporate these features and fixes into your systems. The AGS Security Services support you by bundling the experiences of the AGS into consolidated best practices. We introduce these services and describe how they help you gain an overview of the security of your operational concept.
SAP authorizations are a security-critical and thus an immensely important topic in companies. They are used not only to control the access options of users in the SAP system, but also the external and internal security of company data depends directly on the authorizations set.
Authorization concepts - advantages and architecture
When the FIORI interface is called up, different roles (Fiori groups) are associated with factually related FIORI tiles. As an example, here is the group Master Data in which the FIORI tile "Manage Cost Center" can be found.
As part of the implementation of a security patch process, you will have to evaluate many security advisories, depending on your release and support package status. In this case, you can use the RSECNOTE report or the EarlyWatch Alerts to evaluate which security information has been identified as particularly critical by SAP Active Global Support. Since March 2013, the RSECNOTE report has only been very restricted and therefore contains only a few new safety recommendations. Nevertheless, it provides good guidance for the initial resolution of security gaps.
"Shortcut for SAP systems" is a tool that enables the assignment of authorizations even if the IdM system fails.
In addition to other useful functions, it also offers the automation of mass maintenance of role withdrawals.
It must therefore be defined in which time period and in which form the departments must receive the information about the assigned authorizations and report back regarding the correctness of the assignment.
