In the beginning, in our company the installation and management of the systems were dealt with by the functional consultants/consultants of the respective systems. The CRM consultant was responsible for the SAP CRM system, the SRM consultant for the SAP SRM, etc.
The definition, organisational structure as well as the naming of the SAP basis is historically conditioned by previous SAP software versions and components. This also results in the perception of the SAP basis and the related focus of the SAP NetWeaver and the ABAP system core, which is still widely used today. However, the scope of activities has changed significantly in terms of tasks and technology and will continue to change in view of SAP's perspective and product strategy and the changing roles of IT. In order to accommodate this change and to change perceptions both in the overall context of the SAP ecosystem and within its own company, the SAP basis must develop a new self-understanding and establish a marketing for the publication of its own performance. Creating a basis for the SAP landscape

For example, many customer ABAP programs work by uploading or downloading data. There are potentially large security gaps here that allow access to server data. In addition, the widespread direct invocation of operating system commands that are not covered by a self-programmed authorization check is a major problem. Even though classic SQL injection, i.e., the entry of extended SQL commands, is a potential security vulnerability, it occurs rather rarely in SAP systems. More widespread is the unintentional dynamization of SQL calls because input parameters are not sufficiently checked. The need to check all in-house developments internally for such security vulnerabilities before they are delivered in SAP's own code has led to the development of the SAP Code Vulnerability Analyzer tool.
